How to Prepare Your Items for Long-Term Storage

Whether you're storing items for a few months or over a year, preparation is key to keeping your belongings in great condition.

Here’s how to do it right:

1. Declutter First

Don’t store what you don’t need. Go through your items and donate, recycle, or sell anything you no longer use. Less stuff = less cost and clutter.

2. Clean Everything

Dust, dirt and even crumbs can attract pests and lead to deterioration. Clean furniture, wipe down electronics, and wash fabrics before packing.

3. Use the Right Packing Materials

  • Use strong boxes for stacking.
  • Wrap fragile items in bubble wrap or packing paper.
  • Cover furniture with blankets or dust sheets.
  • Use silica gel packs or moisture absorbers to prevent mould.

4. Label Your Boxes Clearly

Trust us—future you will thank you. Label boxes on multiple sides with their contents and which room they belong to.

5. Choose a Safe, Secure Storage Facility

Not all storage is created equal. At Light Rock Removals, our facilities are monitored, clean, and designed to keep your items protected for the long haul.
